Transfer Targets and What you Need to Know

Last updated : 14 August 2012 By Hog

Every transfer window that comes up Tottenham are linked to anyone that wants a transfer, anyone that is being looked at by Europe's Elite and any agent that fancies starting a move for their player.

In order for you to make your own mind up I have put some information below about who we are linked with so you can make up your own mind.

Gaston Ramirez - Winger (not striker as today's artices state) - Bologna

This 21 yr old Uruguayan international has come under great interest with Spurs, Liverpool and Inter, rated at €16million. Is yet to reach double figures on the goal side of things (although is considered to be a gifted and skillful winger), but is being compared to Kaka . Lets hope that his big dream move doesn't go as badly as Kaka's to Madrid. Whether he is worth his premium is yet to be seen, so potentially he is not worth the risk financially. We do not need this player unless we sold Lennon (which I believe will be unlikely), so I am confused on the action being taken by the club (is it smoke and mirrors?).

Yann M'Vila - Defensive Midfielder - Rennes

22 yr old French international has been on Europe's Elite watch list for a while now, but only 1 English club (supposedly Spurs) have put in an official bid. He is likened to Vieira and Makelele for his style of play, but with the elite resisting a bid you have to question whether this player is truly going to improve our squad that already has Sandro, Huddlestone and Scott Parker. If a decent enough deal could be done he may be a useful acquisition, but not at the expense of Luka Modric (he is not a direct replacement). The one item that is of interest was the news that Blanc had intended to build the international team around him (before he was injured). So I am 50/50 on this one.

Etienne Capoue - Defensive Midfielder/ Defender - Toulouse

The eldest of the recently announced transfer targets at 24 yrs old. Capoue has featured for France at the U18, U19 and U21 level and has failed yet to win his first full cap. Although a cheaper option to M'Vila its like comparing an Astra to a BMW, if you want a cheap run around Capoue is the right choice, however if you need a defensive midfielder you go for M'VIla. He was however named in Ligue 1 Team of the Year 11-12. Lazio, Arsenal and Liverpool were linked with the player 09-10 season, but no further solid interest has been shown in the player since. The Astra, BMW may not be a completely fair comparison, however M'Vila is the better option by far.

So as it stands our recent transfer links are midfielders only. This highlights several things 1. Adebayor is signing (thats why rumours are not flowing fast for strikers) 2. Lloris is signing (same reason rumours aren't flowing) 3. The club is yet to identify another striker.

The club were linked to Llorente yesterday, but are highly unlikely to meet an agreement with Bilbao ahead of Juventus and Utd. Rossi has stated he will not play again for Villarreal (following their relegation), but he is not expected back from injury until at least February 2013. Finally we have the 2 ridiculous untouchable's Hulk and Damiao. The fee's are too high and the wages will be just as bad, I don't expect to see efforts made to sign either of the 2. So realistically only Rossi is obtainable from the above, but proves a risk with his ligament injury.

I am still highly confident of my inside sources that Ade and Lloris are done (or there abouts) and that no deals have been concluded for Luka, but should any of this change we best see Levy step up to the plate. As I have been saying for weeks Levy MUST support AVB with more cash than he did with Redknapp, the board will closely be following Tottenham's begin to the season. The fans will not let Levy's decision to depleat the squad and bring in faces where we don't neccessarily need them and leave key area's looking more bear than Mo Farah after a heavy diet.

I am waiting to see BIG news come out and if its small news Levy's position will have to come under question.

Once again though guys & gals, support the players we do have and the new gaffer, we must be the voice of the missing players. If Levy has let the players down let us pick them back up!

Come on you Spurs!
