Villa: Tottenham took too long

Last updated : 17 July 2013 By Hoggg

"It is true the idea was for me to go to the Premier League, because the biggest offers came from there," Villa said.

"But then Atletico Madrid showed up and they did more in three days than others did in months."

So it has come from the horse’s mouth. Again we have missed out on targets due to our ridiculously slow approach to negotiation. Or is it?

It was said for weeks that Villa was heading to Spurs, but then within days that all changed and he became an A. Madrid player. What was the reason behind this?

As per the Paulinho bid we wrapped this up but it was not quick, so we obviously wanted him. However the Villa transfer dragged on and on and then he signed for someone else. This MUST mean that we were in talks with other targets if we allowed the Villa transfer to fall apart. This is not wishful thinking or sour grapes etc it is common sense and proven by our track record.

Whenever we have been in for a player we made sure we got him. Look at how long the Vertonghen and Lloris transfers took.

So now hearing it direct from Villa it shows that the club must be in talks with other strikers to have essentially passed up on Villa.

I know that we are constantly hearing about Benteke, but nothing has actually come out other than paper talk. The player nor either club have confirmed anything. For me this highlights that we MAY go in for Benteke, but I feel that we are looking for cheaper alternatives and as I had said yesterday Negredo is cheaper,  available and has greater experience.

Don't be surprised to see a few new names pop up shortly.
