What striker crisis? Soldado es Grande!

Last updated : 06 November 2013 By Hoggg

This time last season we used JD (who has a wealth of experience in the EPL) as our main striker. At this point last year he had notched up 5 goals in the EPL and there was talk of him scoring 20 goals in the season. By the end of the season JD had notched up 15 goals (11 in the EPL). I am grateful for that though so don’t get me wrong.

Soldado has so far scored 4 goals in 10 appearances. In what world is this under performing? How can the media and pundits criticise him for this?

Comparing last season to this season our main striker is 1 goal down from our main striker from last season. Its’ not a bad return considering we do not have a settled midfield.

This season we have a midfield of 5 new players and 2 that rarely were acknowledged. Players are still learning each other’s styles and runs (I've said it before), building their fitness and adjusting to the different style in play in the league.

Soldado has come from a completely different style league and no matter how much he costs he will need some adjustment.

Our midfield are not reading his runs YET, missing the space he finds, but that all comes in tandem with having almost a completely new midfield.

Soldado has scored 3 times from the spot, that’s composure that a striker needs, the open play goal is because the team actually worked well at that one point to feed Soldado the type of balls he thrives on. So again I ask where is the issue?

We shall see goals from this forward, he shall prove his worth, but we need to see the midfield settle in order for this to happen.

I feel for JD who has been scoring in Europe and the Cup, but you do not bring in talent like Soldado and bench him! JD is proving that he can still score (albeit in games outside the EPL), but we have to remember JD didn't have this competition last season to push him as hard.

Give Roberto a break fans and pundits, he is not misfiring, he is trying to gel into a completely new look team.

As always trust in AVB.
