Why late transfers damage the club

I for one do not agree with the procedure and can only see issues arising from it.

Levy has failed more times than succeeded in the transfer market by leaving things to the last minute, so I cannot see why Levy feel's that this tactic still works?

The likes of Man City and Chelsea move quickly and tie their transfers up. You can only see the good reasoning’s behind this rather than negatives.

Firstly a club are willing to lose a player as long as they have time to find a replacement, bidding at the last minute stops all negotiations flat (generally as the selling club are left with a big hole that they cannot fill). If the player is so intent on leaving he may try to force a deal through, but most players do not want to look like the bad guy. However this usually helps create a bidding war for the players services.

Following this you have the issues of integration into the squad. Coming into a squad whether it be from Europe or South America there is always some time needed to integrate. So how is it that we believe that players can come in and perform instantaneously? No matter how good a player is coming into a squad from a foreign league means adapting to a new league, tactics and style. A prime example of this is Modric and Drogba. Both players did not fit in for some time, however they then went on to be  top players in the EPL. So how can we expect to draft in players and then after one training session play in the first team (whilst expecting so much)? The player must get used to his team, new style and new tactics, but that’s forgetting a potential language barrier.

We purchased Vertonghen and Lloris earlier on than the last day and they integrated well (ok Lloris did once given the chance).

So why is it that we continue down this non productive path? The longer we leave it the higher the price goes and less chance of dealing with any issues that arise! This was supposedly our downfall on the Moutinho, Willain and Damiao deals last season.

Common sense alone tells us this is a bad procedure and facts show us that it is not a great process to follow.

So come on Levy, let's take it from the teams finishing above us that early transfers allow us the time to work properly on a deal, iron out any issues, knock down on the wages and most importantly allows team integration.
