New Charlton boss Iain Dowie is only ready to agree a deal for his star striker if a club comes in with an offer of £16 million.

Martin Jol had a £10 million bid for Bent rejected says the same report. Meanwhile, Spurs are also monitoring Diego Tristán, the Deportivo La Coruña striker, according to Gary Jacob in The Times.

Spurs forked out £10.5 million for a centre forward at the start of the summer, bringing Dimitar Berbatov to the club from Bayer Leverkusen, as Mido's loan from AS Roma expired.

As well as having Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane, Academy graduate Lee Barnard also made three substitute appearances for Tottenham's first team in April and May, which rounded off a second consecutive season of prolific goalscoring in the reserves.
