Andre Villas-Boas has discussed how Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy wanted Paris Saint-Germain to pay his £15m buyout clause in 2013.
The Portuguese tactician joined Spurs in 2012 after his infamous appointment as Chelsea boss ended in sour fashion, when he was named the club's head coach at just 33 years of age the year prior for a then-world record fee.
Following a successful first season in charge at Tottenham where he guided the club to their highest ever Premier League points tally at the time, things unravelled again for Villas-Boas after the sale of Gareth Bale, opening up on his exit from the club in a new interview.
Speaking on his time in English football with The Telegraph, Villas-Boas explained why Levy was keen to see him leave.
"The PSG offer was on the table. Yeah, Daniel wanted to sell me for £15m," he said.
"PSG obviously didn’t want to pay £15m and there were a lot of things that weren’t right with Paris Saint-Germain, particularly on their approach. I decided to stay, for my love of Tottenham.
"I think Tottenham were waiting for me to go and that’s it. That was the stepping stone for the beginning of a bad relationship for that [second] season."
Villas-Boas left 'by mutual consent' in December 2013 following a difficult start to his second season in charge and returned to management in March 2014 with Zenit. He's since managed in China and France, while also embarking on charitable work projects.
