Beasant poised for Pompey return

Beasant was signed on a three-month deal by Glenn Hoddle who needed experienced cover for Neil Sullivan after Kasey Keller suffered a foot injury. But Keller has since returned from the lay-off to produce a string of solid displays leaving Beasant out in the cold at The Lane.
The former Wimbledon and Nottingham Forest keeper had the option of extending the deal if Keller was named in the United States squad for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
However US coach Bruce Arena has admitted he will not stand in any player's way if they are performing for their club, and with Keller set to continue battling away with Sullivan for the number one jersey, he is unlikely to be called upon for international duty.
All that leaves Beasant with little chance of first-team football and he is set to link-up with Pompey again and was hoping to play against Bradford tomorrow but a Football League decision now appears to have scuppered those plans.
Beasant had agreed all the details and terms for a switch back to Fratton Park, but a rule which states that a club re-signing a player within a 12-month period must re-apply to the League has stalled the deal.
Pompey followed the procedure and made the application but they are yet to receive official confirmation of the transfer and that may prevent Beasant from playing tomorrow.
