The club have completed the first major signing since selling Robbie Keane to Liverpool after confirming that Blackburn winger David Bentley will ply his trade at White Hart Lane next season. The deal sees the England international move for an initial £15m, a fee that could be supplemented with a further £2m depending on his achievements at the club.

Juande Ramos has wasted little time in strengthening his squad since the departure of Keane and the addition of Bentley is a significant boost for the Spaniard who is admirer of the former Arsenal players versatility, technical prowess and crossing ability.

During his time at Blackburn Mark Hughes deployed Bentley too great effect on the right wing and just behind the strikers. Last season he missed just one Premier League game, scoring seven and providing nine assists; particularly impressive statistics considering Rovers weren't the most prolific of goalscorers.

Impressive form for his club forced Bentley back into contention for a place in the England squad after he had fell out of favour for refusing to take part in the England U21 international tournament last summer. He has so far made six appearances for the senior squad, earning praise for his dynamic performances and has been favourably compared to David Beckham.

At a press conference just moments ago Bentley said that he made up his mind as soon as he heard the club were interested in him: "I was trying my nuts off to get here. I Just want to get out and start playing and do my best for the club.

"I'm going to give everything I can. I know its a big price tag but I'll be giving all my heart to Tottenham. Didn't really contemplate going to another club."

Bentley has signed a six year deal and will fly out with the rest of the squad to Holland for the Feyenoord Jubileum tournament in Rotterdam this weekend.
