Cole get out clause was agreed

An escape clause was part of Ashley Cole's three-year, £70,000-a-week contract - terms that would allow him to leave Arsenal in the future for a fee of £16 million.

An agreement within Cole's one-year contract extension the player signed at Highbury last summer is demonstrative that the deal was only ever intended to be a short-term one.
