Danny Rose Reveals Why He Initiated Loan Move to Newcastle United

Danny Rose has admitted that he was the one to suggest a loan move from Tottenham Hotspur to Newcastle United this winter, having seen the Magpies lose fellow left-back Jetro Willems to injury.

Willems, who joined on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt during the summer, ruptured his cruciate ligament in the recent 1-0 win over Chelsea and is expected to miss the remainder of the campaign.

With Paul Dummett also sidelined with a long-term injury, Newcastle were left with no other senior left-backs, and Rose confessed to Sky Sports News that Willems' injury prompted him to suggest a move to St. James' Park.

"I was watching Newcastle play Chelsea and I saw the injury that Jetro had," Rose said after sealing his switch on Thursday.

"Straight away I got on the phone to my agent and said 'I want to go there'. It took a week to ten days to get there but I'm happy that I'm here. It was just by coincidence. It's unfortunate that somebody has had to get injured but I'm grateful that I'm here. I'm just looking forward to playing games now."

Rose, who was born in Doncaster, has previously spoken about his desire to return to the north of England, where he began his career with Leeds United. Family reasons are thought to be one of the Englishman's main reasons for the move, but he joked that he is mainly looking forward to eating fish and chips in the north once more.

"The best chippy is in Doncaster. I was in London for 13 years and I think I only found one good chip shop," he added.

"So I'm going to make the most of it now I'm back up north and I'm looking forward to enjoying life again."

Rose struggled to hold down a permanent place in the Spurs starting lineup under José Mourinho, starting just one Premier League game, but he will now expect to be a core part of Steve Bruce's Newcastle side for the remainder of the season.

When he returns to Spurs in the summer, he will enter the final year of his contract, so a permanent move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium seems incredibly likely.
