Danny Rose to Join Newcastle on Loan Deal From Tottenham Until End of Season

Newcastle have agreed a loan deal with Tottenham to take Danny Rose until the end of the season.

Rose has fallen down the pecking order in north London under Jose Mourinho, often consigned to a role on the bench or, more recently, no place in the squad at all.

Rose said in November he was intent on seeing out the remainder of his deal, claiming 'I'm not going anywhere until my contract is finished'. Talk of a bust up in Spurs training was denied by the new boss recently, although the defender's future has appeared to be leading away from the club for a number of months.

The club are willing to let the left-back leave and have been open to offers throughout the January window, while Newcastle are a side who have been registered with an interest in the past, having monitored Rose's situation since the summer.

Their hand has been forced this month though, following Jetro Willems' season ending injury on Tyneside. The Dutchman had been one of the Magpies' standout players in the Premier League this season, but it was confirmed he will not feature again this term after rupturing a ligament in the same knee he damaged three years ago.

As a result, Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph has revealed that Steve Bruce's side are closing in on a loan deal for the 29-year-old defender until the end of the season, to soften then blow of Willems' injury.

The club have agreed to pay a £2m loan fee, and will have the option to purchase Rose in the summer should they wish to. While Rose insisted he would see out the remaining 18 months of his Spurs deal, it presents him with an opportunity to stake a claim in Gareth Southgate's upcoming Euro 2020 squad.

So far this season, Newcastle have surpassed expectations and find themselves 14th in the Premier League table. However, a host of injuries to first-team players have risked curtailing their season, therefore Rose's addition will help reinforce Bruce's squad as this bid to retain their top flight status.
