David Pleat has announced that Jermain Defoe will be unable to make his debut in tomorrow night's FA Cup fourth round replay against Manchester City. Defoe, signed from West Ham United for £7m yesterday has not played in the competition for the Hammers this season so is not cup-tied, but has missed the registration deadline for this round, which stands at seven days prior to a fixture. Fans will be hoping that he will appear in Saturday's Premiership clash with Portsmouth.
