Third Division side Darlington have failed in their bid to lure former Spurs great Paul Gascoigne to the club. The Quakers had reportedly been favourites to sign the midfielder, but there were immediate problems when Gascoigne's representatives became angered by Darlington's quick release of the story. However, Gascoigne's agent eventually met with chairman George Reynolds and his aides, but a deal could not be struck after four hours of talks.
