Gio gets on the scoresheet as Berba exit looms large

Spurs ran riot during a training ground friendly match in Spain this evening, running out 8-0 winners against local side Tavernes (which is probably Spanish for 'pub side'). The highlight of the outing was two goals from new boy Giovanni Dos Santos.

Using the fixture as a way of continuing to improve his players' fitness, Ramos fielded two different sides in each half. Such was his side's dominance in the first period that Aaron Lennon managed to get on the score sheet...with his head. Czech striker Tomas Pekhart bagged two second half goals and the scoring was completed by Steed Malbranque and Jamie O'Hara.

In other news David Button and Danny Rose appeared for England U19s against the Czech Republic this evening. Despite an impressive first half, young keeper Button's misjudgement in the second half gifted the lead to the Czechs who eventually ran out 2-0 winners.

Speculation is rife that the club have agreed to sell Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United for £28m. So far reports are unsubstantiated and it remains unlikely that any deal has been agreed while the forward remains in Spain with the rest of the club.

Although this fresh bout of rumourmongering is more likely press conjecture than hard fact, bookmakers across the country have slashed odds on the Bulgarian forward starting the season at Old Trafford and sports columnists have already began to speculate on who will replace the enigmatic forward.
