Harry Kane fit and named in starting XI for Tottenham against West Brom

The superhuman entity that is Harry Kane has been named in the starting XI to face West Brom on Sunday, a little over a week after he injured both of his ankles against Liverpool.

Tottenham looked as if they were staring down the barrel of another medium-term absence from their top scorer after he went off at the break in their 3-1 defeat to the Reds. Jose Mourinho delivered a fairly bleak update in the wake of the match, and it all seemed to be going wrong.

Having watched his team lose to Brighton and Chelsea from the sidelines, though, it appears Kane has had enough.

After reports began to circulate that maybe the problem wasn't as bad as first feared, Spurs Twitter kicked into overdrive pre-match when images emerged of a kitted out Kane arriving at the stadium. And he has now been named in the starting XI against the Baggies in Sunday's early kick-off.

After a couple of dismal attacking performances without him, Mourinho will be relieved to have him back in the team. The typically explosive Son Heung-min has looked like a little boy lost without his partner in crime and the prospect of facing Sam Allardyce's low block (if you can even call it that) without Kane didn't bear thinking about for Spurs fans.

Especially in a game they simply have to win to prevent their season spiralling even further. After three consecutive Premier League defeats, they are sinking like a stone: they're currently ninth, seven points off the Champions League places, and once again find themselves fighting just to secure European football of any description next season.

Prior to his injury, Kane had scored 19 goals and assisted 14 more in just 29 appearances in 2020/21. He's averaged a goal involvement every 66 minutes in all competitions. Ridiculous.
