Harry Kane Leaves St Mary's on Crutches After Suffering Injury During 1-0 Southampton Loss

Harry Kane left St. Mary's on crutches after suffering an injury during Tottenham's 1-0 loss to Southampton on New Year's Day.

The England captain pulled up appearing to hold his hamstring after reaching to convert a free kick - though his strike was ruled out for offside - and was hooked in the 75th minute, replaced by Erik Lamela.

Now, as reported by various outlets, it has emerged Kane left Southampton's stadium using crutches, with the festive schedule finally taking its toll on Jose Mourinho's squad in devastating fashion.

Tanguy Ndombele, who previously made himself unavailable to Mourinho ahead of the clash with Brighton due to fears of aggravating an injury, also had to be replaced, coming off in the 25th minute for Giovani Lo Celso.

It seems unlikely that Kane will be fit for Tottenham's FA Cup trip to Middlesbrough on Sunday, while the Premier League clash with Liverpool on 11 January may also come too soon.

Spurs will have Son Heung-min available after the South Korean completed a suspension for a recent red card against Chelsea, though there will be a need for more creativity in forward areas alongside the former Bayer Leverkusen star's return, going off their performance at St. Mary's.

Tottenham struggled again in large periods despite having Lo Celso, Christian Eriksen, Lucas Moura and Dele Alli involved for most of the game, with Mourinho's side missing the chance to cut Chelsea's lead in fourth.

The Blues were held to a 1-1 draw at Brighton in one of Wednesday's early kick offs as Alireza Jahanbakhsh scored an overhead kick to cancel out Cesar Azpilicueta's opportunistic strike.

Chelsea are now six points ahead of Spurs in the race for fourth, though Manchester United could go within two points of Frank Lampard's side if they were they to beat Arsenal on Wednesday night.
