"In the periods where he wasn't playing, he always showed a good attitude and was always prepared to work hard," said Spurs assistant coach Chris Hughton.
Hughton who helps coach the Republic of Ireland squad also believes that Keane has become the captain of his country because he is their all time record goalscorer.
"I think it was to do with what he has done for Ireland in scoring so many goals," he added.
