Hugo Lloris Reveals He's Still in Regular Contact With Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has revealed that he remains in regular contact with his former manager Mauricio Pochettino since the Argentinian's sacking earlier in the season.

Lloris had been at Tottenham for two years before Pochettino was appointed as manager in the summer of 2014. The French World Cup winner became a key player under the Argentine, and was made club captain in his second season at the helm.

After finishing fourth in the Premier League and reaching the Champions League final last season - ultimately losing to Liverpool - Tottenham started the 2019/20 campaign sluggishly, dropping as low as 14th before Pochettino was replaced by José Mourinho in November.

Yet, despite the end of their professional relationship together at Tottenham, Lloris revealed that he remains on good terms with Pochettino and his coaching staff. Lloris explained to The Guardian: “I’m always in touch with Mauricio and his staff, they represent more than my ex-manager and coaches."

The 33-year-old continued: “We are talking about a friend relationship and I will follow the news to see his future. Do I hope he stays in England? To be honest, I just want him to be happy and to be at the place that he deserves.”

Pochettino has been linked with a host of managerial roles in the Premier League and abroad

With the Premier League's return on the horizon, Lloris and Tottenham have nine games to make up for their slow start. Spurs were eighth in the Premier League going into the enforced hiatus, seven points behind Chelsea in fourth, and face fifth-placed Manchester United in their first game back.

The Tottenham captain outlined the task they have before them to end the season on a high, declaring: "We are not in a good position. We don’t have the right to lose games and even more when you face a direct opponent like Manchester United.

"We are going to start again with a very important game, maybe a decisive game for the future. There is a lot to win and lose in these last nine games. It’s the final sprint, you can win or lose everything."
