Hugo Lloris Undergoes Surgery on Injured Elbow as Tottenham Set Return Date

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has undergone surgery on his left elbow and is expected to return in January.

The French goalkeeper dislocated his elbow in the opening minutes of Spurs' 3-0 loss at Brighton in October, and many feared he could miss the rest of the season because of the distress he was in.

Lloris was left in agony after he failed to deal with a cross, dropping it into the path of Neil Maupay, who opened the scoring for Brighton. While dropping the ball, Lloris landed awkwardly on his left elbow and was stretchered off shortly after.

However, the club confirmed that he is expected to return in January after undergoing surgery, as specialists determined that the elbow was still unstable following clinical testing and examination.

Lloris has been watching on the sidelines while Argentine Paulo Gazzaniga has taken his place between the sticks, notably putting in impressive performances against Liverpool and Red Star Belgrade.

Tottenham have so far fallen below expectations this season, and the experienced 32-year-old will be eager to return. The Champions League finalists' poor form has been well documented, and while they beat Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday, they still haven't won any of their last four Premier League games.

Spurs will be hoping Lloris returns in time for January, where they are traditionally good performers under Mauricio Pochettino. They have the opportunity to pick up vital points, facing Southampton away on New Year's Day, before a huge clash with Liverpool at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

They'll also enter the FA Cup before further Premier League games against Watford and Norwich, but the landscape of Spurs' season could have completely changed for better or worse by this point.

Lloris has featured in a total of 307 games for the Lilywhites after signing from Lyon in 2013.
