Injury Update on Harry Kane as Rehabilitation Continues Following Hamstring Tear

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has stepped up his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury by resuming training on grass after recently being confined to lighter work in the indoor gym.

Kane has been out of action since tearing his hamstring on New Year’s Day in a defeat against Southampton and soon underwent surgery.

He was initially expected to be sidelined until April, but concerns then grew that he could actually miss the rest of the season and may even be a doubt for England at Euro 2020.

However, Tottenham’s confirmation that Kane has progressed to outdoor work on grass backs up the more recent updates that he could be back not long after the March international break.

Spurs have been playing without a recognised central forward during Kane’s absence. Son Heung-min later also suffered a broken arm to further diminish the squad’s attacking options.

Winger Steven Bergwijn played up front with support from Lucas Moura and Giovani Lo Celso in Spurs’ last outing as Jose Mourinho fell to a 2-1 defeat against former club Chelsea.

But Mourinho’s hope is now that Kane, who had scored 17 goals in 25 appearances this season across all competitions prior to his injury, might play in three, four or even five games for Spurs before the end of the campaign.

Addressing the media ahead of this weekend’s home clash with Wolves, the manager also suggested there is ‘hope’ for Son to return with a cast on his arm and that he and Kane could even play together again this season. Mourinho says there is a ‘good possibility’ of that.

With the race for Champions League football incredibly tight, Spurs will need every advantage they can get. A returning Kane and Son, even just for a few games at the end of the season might be the boost they need to finish in the top four, or top five as it may ultimately be.

From mid-April onwards, Spurs are due to play Bournemouth (A), Arsenal (H), Newcastle (A), Leicester (H) and Crystal Palace (A) in the final five Premier League games.
