Its top secret- Darren Anderton

Who is Sporting hero ?

Michael Jordan, because he totally dominated his sport and was so exciting to watch when I spent my summers in America.

What would you be if you weren't a sportsman?

I only ever wanted to play football and never thought about what else I would do. Although my uncle worked in a bank and I enjoyed maths at school, so maybe that would have been an option.

Which other sportsman would you like to be?

Rafa Nadal. He is such a class act and fighter to come through and be No 1 in a time when the best player ever, Roger Federer, is still going strong.

Career highlight?

Either my England debut as a performance or World Cup goal as a moment.

. . . and the worst moment?

Going out of Euro 96 and the 1998 World Cup on penalties.

If your house was burning down, what one possession would you save?

My iPhone. Only joking . . . probably as many of my mementos from my career as possible.

What's the best advice you 've ever been given?

From my dad, to make sure I enjoyed every game I played in. And Alan Ball, who preached 'control and pass', which was simple but genius.

Favourite karaoke song?

I don't do karaoke as I wouldn't want to empty a bar! If I had to, maybe Free Fallin' by Tom Petty.

Three most listened to songs on your ipod?

Alicia Keys and Jay Z - Empire State of Mind. Notorious B.I.G - Juicy. Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars.

Last film you saw?

The Social Network. Amazing story about the inventors of Facebook, though I'm still not tempted to be on it!

High point: Darren Anderton's best moment was Euro 96

Last book you read?

John Daly's autobiography. An entertaining read about his gambling, drinking, eating and a little bit about his golf!

Can you cook?

I'm not a very good cook although I do try to cook my favourites: spaghetti bolognese, or steak and chips. Sometimes it's OK, sometimes it's bad - that's what my brothers tell me.

Your Favourite holiday destination?

South Beach in Miami with its beautiful beaches and great restaurants, bars, and hotels. You can never get bored.

In a film of your life, who would you like to play you?

Maybe Kevin Costner. The way he was in Tin Cup was like me on the golf course - all or nothing!

What's the most expensive treat you've ever bought?

A Bentley Continental. Such a great car.

Tell us a secret...

On many occasions growing up my dad had to take half sets of clubs to the golf shop to be repaired after I'd rapped them round trees after bad shots! I'm better now . . . kind of.
