Jose Mourinho has commented on an ill-timed Instagram post from Gareth Bale, though revealed the Welshman will be in Tottenham's squad to face Manchester City if he declares himself fit.
Bale's loan return to Spurs has been a disappointment so far, scoring just four times in all competitions, and he has made most of his appearances in cup matches.
He was expected to be involved in some capacity during the FA Cup defeat to Everton on Wednesday, but was left out of the squad. Bale and his entourage had posted a picture on Instagram with the caption 'Good session today', hinting at his availability, but Mourinho has now addressed the confusion caused.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday's trip to Manchester City, Mourinho said: "I have to admit that his post created a need of being addressed."There was a contradiction between the post and the reality. Since the beginning of the season, in relation to everything, I've tried to be very private and keep everything indoors but I felt that I needed to address the situation.
"Probably the post was not even his responsibility, but it was showing that 'training session was great and I'm ready', which was totally wrong. So when questioned I had to give the reality of things.
"I repeat for the last time. He was not feeling good. He asked for a scan. He had a scan. The scan did not show an injury but his feelings were still there but as coaches, medical people we can never go against the player feelings.
"So he was not ready for the game. It's as simple as that. If he's ready for tomorrow [Saturday] he's selected for tomorrow."
While Mourinho has hinted at a more involved role for Dele Alli after a loan move to Paris Saint-Germain failed to materialise, Bale has not played since the 1-0 defeat at Brighton at the end of January.
