Jose Mourinho on Liverpool, Gareth Bale Fitness & Harry Winks' Tottenham Future

It's a top of the table clash on Wednesday night when Premier League leaders Tottenham travel to second place Liverpool.

Spurs were pegged back during their trip to Crystal Palace after taking the lead through Harry Kane, with the home side's pressure eventually telling when Jeffrey Schlupp scrambled home from a free kick.

Liverpool have not lost at home in the league since April 2017 but with injuries totting up and Spurs in decent form, there's more optimism from the away side's fans than there usually is before the trip to Anfield.

Here's what Mourinho mentioned during his pre-match press conference.

Liverpool

Liverpool last lost at home in 2017, when a Christian Benteke inspired Palace side came from behind to beat Jurgen Klopp's side.

However, Mourinho distanced his Spurs team from being likened to the Reds, highlighting how much time his opposite number has had in the job.

"We are a good team that works hard but I would say Liverpool is the result of if - I'm not wrong - 1,894 days of work with Jurgen. 1,894, if I'm wrong I'm wrong by a few days. We are the result of work of 390 days, but these 390 days are fake, because probably lots of these days were not even days of work but days of quarantine, days of being at home unable to work.

"So from almost 2,000 to 300. For us to be able to compete at the level we're doing I can only give credit to the players and be very, very happy with what they're doing."

Wales international Bale was absent from the squad at the weekend through illness and is doubtful for Wednesday evening, with Mourinho admitting he doesn't think the forward will feature.

"We still have a training session. Yesterday [Monday] he didn't train with the team, he trained inside. At the moment I'd say no but we'll see."

Harry Winks

The future of Harry Winks has cropped up in the papers over the past week or so.

The England international walked down the tunnel after being substituted against Royal Antwerp and has struggled for minutes in the Premier League due to the form of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Tanguy Ndombele, Moussa Sissoko and Giovani Lo Celso.

He has been linked with a move away from north London, with Euro 2020 on the horizon and a place in the squad far from confirmed, and Mourinho revealed he has spoken with the midfielder about the situation.

"Yes, he came to me. Not just him. Many players come to me. I have my office on the first floor and a little space on the ground floor by the dressing room to make it so easy for them. Yes, Winks came to speak with me, yes."

The Ndombele-Lo Celso Conundrum

The substitution of Ndombele for Lo Celso is quickly becoming Tottenham's equivalent of Chelsea's Ross Barkley for Mateo Kovacic switch under Maurizio Sarri. Fans are desperate to see them play together, though they often feature in different competitions - Ndombele in the Premier League and Lo Celso in the Europa League.

"It's not difficult. Difficult is when you don't have any one of them. Can they play together? Yes. The physical condition for both is very important.

"To play with the two together, we need them to be fit and play with the right intensity. And they will.

"I'm not saying tomorrow or Sunday or next week but they will play together. It's not a problem when I have both growing up and playing quite well."
