Jose Mourinho provides injury update on Harry Kane

Jose Mourinho has revealed he doesn't know the full extent of the injury picked up by Harry Kane in the closing stages of Tottenham's 2-2 draw with Everton.

Spurs' talisman was forced to limp off in stoppage time at Goodison Park on Friday night after an awkward landing left him on his haunches just seconds before the final whistle.

Mourinho can ill afford to be without his star striker as Tottenham continue to battle for a place in Europe next season, while England boss Gareth Southgate will also be anxiously awaiting news with the delayed Euro 2020 finals kicking off in less than two months time.

When asked if he had an update on the severity of Kane's injury, Mourinho told the club's official website: “No, not really, it’s too early. Even Harry doesn’t know much, he just had that negative feeling that brought him out of the game.

"I believe probably Sunday is the day to have a different view and to try to anticipate what can happen next week.”

Mourinho was clearly concerned about the knock picked up by Kane when asked about it shortly after the game, adding that the frontman must have been in discomfort to leave the field with his side desperately seeking a late winner.

"For him to leave the pitch, 2-2, with a couple of minutes to go, is obviously because he felt something, but let me be optimistic and believe that he has time to recover," he told Sky Sports in his post-match interview.

"Let me be optimistic and believe that it's nothing serious."

Spurs fans will be desperate for good news regarding their main man over the coming days, with their eagerly anticipated Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on the horizon.

Not only does the showpiece event represent an opportunity for Tottenham to notch their first piece of silverware since their 2008 triumph in the same competition, it would also secure a place in Europe - something which looks far from assured via their league standing right now.
