Jose Mourinho Takes Pop at Antonio Conte as Inter Continue to Chase Christian Eriksen

Jose Mourinho has hit out at Inter manager Antonio Conte, as the Italian side continue their January pursuit of Christian Eriksen.

Tottenham are still demanding €20m for the Dane mid way through the transfer window, with the Lilywhites recently rejecting an improved offer of €13m plus add-ons.

Eriksen is in the final six months of his contract, but Spurs are still holding firm on their valuation in spite of the risk of losing him for free in the summer.

And in a bid to break the stalemate, Eriksen's agent is due to hold talks with Tottenham officials on Tuesday as he tries to convince them to accept a reduced fee. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims the midfielder's representative Martin Schoots will ask the Spurs hierarchy to make a "small economic sacrifice" in order to push the deal through.

The report suggests Eriksen's switch to San Siro could be finalised by the start of next weekend, with the playmaker having already agreed personal terms with the Nerazzurri.

However, recent comments by Spurs boss Mourinho have added further fuel to the fire. The Portuguese fell out with Conte while they managed Manchester United and Chelsea respectively, and Mourinho has taken another pop ahead of Spurs' trip to Watford.

As quoted by the Guardian, Mourinho said: "I think Antonio [Conte has been meddling].

"I think it was publicly. He is very positive that Eriksen is coming to Inter. We shouldn’t speak about players from other clubs until they become our players. You protect everybody. Is it a question of respect? I don’t want to give you a headline. That’s up to you.

"If Inter are confident, they are confident because they are ready to make us an offer, which didn’t happen yet. So, when I see people speaking, especially people with responsibilities, I am a little bit surprised."

As things stand, Eriksen will join Inter if - and only if - Conte's men decide to match Spurs' valuation, with the Premier League side clearly content to walk away should the Nerazzurri fail to meet their demands.
