King makes England return

Ledley King was asked on the morning of England's goalless draw against Macedonia at Old Trafford to fill in for injured Rio Ferdinand.

The Tottenham captain last appeared for his country as a second half substitute in a friendly against Uruguay at Anfield back in March. On that occasion he replaced John Terry and England came from behind to win after the break thanks to a late winner from Joe Cole.

This time he played alongside Terry for the full 90 minutes as Macedonia played with three up front.

King was involved in England's best chance of the first half, but the move culminated in Frank Lampard being denied.

He also provided the cross for England's final chance to break the deadlock in injury time but Peter Crouch's header went wide.
