Leicester Join Race for Joe Rodon - Tottenham Short of Swansea's Asking Price

Leicester have registered their interest in Swansea's Joe Rodon after a bid from Tottenham Hotspur fell short of the centre-back's £20m valuation.

The 22-year-old, who has made five appearances for Wales, has been the subject of lengthy interest
from Spurs, who are looking to make their seventh addition of a busy summer.

With the transfer deadline for domestic transfers not yet having expired, Premier League clubs can still do business with EFL clubs, and Tottenham have until Friday 16 October to agree a deal for Rodon.

Now, however, The Sun report that Tottenham could face some competition for Rodon's services in the shape of Premier League rivals Leicester.

The report explains that Leicester have registered their interest in Rodon but are reluctant to buy him until January - with Wesley Fofana, their 19-year-old defender signed from Saint-Étienne this summer, needing to settle in first.

Leicester currently have Fofana, Jonny Evans, Caglar Soyuncu, Filip Benkovic and Wes Morgan to choose from, but Brendan Rodgers' use of three central defenders means he'd like additional cover for what is a hectic fixture schedule.

While Rodon would prefer an immediate move to the Premier League, Spurs' attempts to snare the player have been unsuccesful so far, with the £7m offered some way short of Swansea's £20m valuation.

This hefty asking price for Rodon's signature is said to be taking into account the reported £25m Everton paid Swansea's fellow Championship club Norwich for their own young centre-back, Ben Godfrey.

Indeed, Tottenham and Leicester are not the only clubs who are interested in adding the exciting young Welsh international to their side, with West Ham and Sheffield United also rumoured to be keen on Rodon.

Spurs' interest has mounted following Jan Vertonghen's departure in July, and they were linked with a late swoop for Inter's Slovakian international Milan Škriniar. A deadline day move failed to materialise though after I Nerazzurri reportedly rebuffed a €35m offer.

José Mourinho has succeeded in other areas of the market, bringing in most notably Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid.
