McClaren's England message

Steve McClaren is expected to field a starting line-up consisting entirely of players who belong to clubs in the top half of the English Premiership this Saturday, plus Owen Hargreaves of Bayern Munich, currently fourth in the Bundesliga.

The England boss said: "It's time for all the players to step forward, to take responsibly, to inspire - to produce a performance that wins you games. That is the message everybody wants to hear and it has to be delivered starting now.

"When you look at the top teams, they have special players who step forward when it is needed and can change games or win you games. Wayne Rooney is one of those players. There are others. It fills me with confidence that those players are there.

"We'll have a strong team and the talking is over and what excites me is the pace, the likes of Aaron Lennon and Andy Johnson. Players that can excite, that can explode and worry defences is something we've not had for two or three years. Looking at Aaron playing week in week out he looks ready."
