Peter Crouch Overwhelmingly Voted Into Spurs' Team of the Decade Ahead of Harry Kane

​Over the past few days, Tottenham Hotspur have been running polls on Twitter to allow fans to vote for their team of the decade.

The likes of Brad Friedel, Son Heung-min, Luka Modrić and Rafael van der Vaart all earned spots in the team, which looks good enough to beat pretty much any team around on any given day.

For the final choice, the club ​asked fans for their opinion on a striker. First, there was Jermain Defoe, who bagged 143 goals in 361 games, but he ended up with just 6% of the votes. ​Harry Kane, who currently sits on 181 in 277 outings, only earned 32%.


The winner, with a whopping 61% of the votes, was Peter Crouch.


Now, we're not here to slight Crouch. He is undoubtedly a ​Premier League legend, but he netted just 24 goals in 93 games for Spurs.

In defence of the result, you only have to look at the comments to see that ​Liverpool fans have swarmed on the poll. Crouch was a hugely popular figure at Anfield, and supporters have clearly paid him back with a win in this survey.


Fans of a few other clubs can also be found in the comments, but there are also some Spurs fans fighting to support the towering former striker.

The result has definitely been taken in good spirits. Ever the joker, Crouch responded to the result on ​Twitter, writing: "I think it’s a close one but Harry just edges it for me."

Earning a spot in the team of the decade seems like a fair reward for that goal against ​Manchester City in May 2010. You know, the goal which saw Spurs reach the ​Champions League for the first time at the expense of City themselves.


That strike was perhaps the most important goal in Spurs' recent history, so the least Crouch deserves is a spot in the team of the decade. Justice.
