Tottenham Hotspur winger Érik Lamela has hit back at rumours that his teammates are unhappy working under head coach José Mourinho.
Mourinho has a reputation for rubbing his players the wrong way, with examples of clashes with high-profile players at most of his former sides, and there have been rumours that he has already upset the Spurs squad because of his training style and love of bashing his own players in the media.
However, speaking to Stadium Astro, Lamela insisted that the squad are happy working under someone with Mourinho's pedigree and they are getting closer to him.
“No, for me it’s good. I’m enjoying it at the moment," he explained. “It’s true that since he arrived I’ve been injured, so that period was difficult because I wanted to play, I wanted to show the manager that I wanted to be in the team.
“It was difficult for me in the first two or three weeks that he was in. But after I enjoy. I think it’s very good to play for [Mourinho]. I know all the team - we know him, we know what he wants and the type of person that he is.
“He’s showing every day that he’s a normal person, so we are very happy with him. Yeah, for me he’s very funny.”
Unsurprisingly, the conversation soon turned to Harry Kane. The Spurs striker has been heavily linked with a move away from the club this summer, with Manchester United and Real Madrid both suggested as potential suitors in a blockbuster £200m deal.
Lamela was understandably eager to avoid discussing any speculation, but he was happy to talk about just how impressive Kane's rise to prominence was.
"I don’t know [if I could have predicted this], he said. "It’s difficult because at the beginning he had a lot of players in front of him, like Adebayor, Soldado, Defoe.
“But Harry is a machine. Harry likes to train a lot and honestly he really deserved what he got at the moment – and I think he can get much more because his quality is amazing. I’m happy because he deserves it as a player and a person too.”
