Roeder is fearful of Tottenham's spark

On the evidence of Tottenham's last showing, against West Brom on Monday night, Glenn Roeder said: "I think they showed they are an excellent side. People said they were lucky to win, but I don't think that was the case. Once they got back to 1-1 they were always on top and if there had to be a winner then it was always going to be Spurs."

Martin Jol praised the efforts of all his forwards after Spurs came from behind to beat the Baggies, and maintain a three point advantage over fifth placed Blackburn going into today's fixture at St James' Park.

Jermain Defoe, involved in the incident that led to referee Chris Foy awarding the spot kick that Robbie Keane tucked away to grab the three points that moved Spurs clear in the table, said afterwards: "Even 1-0 down at half-time we still really believed we could win the game. I certainly thought we could win it and I think all the lads did as well."

But up until then, and for the opening 15 minutes of the second half the visitors had sat back as they hoped to hold onto their early lead. But eventually Bryan Robson's side showed why they are fighting for their Premiership lives, while Jol introducing Mido did them no favours either.

Keane added: "We showed character and great spirit as the game opened up a little bit in the second half."
