Routledge set to return in a month

Teemu Tainio returned from injury and went straight into the Tottenham side ahead of Andy Reid, as Jol sorted out a replacement for the suspended Edgar Davids.

The Finn got the nod due to the tigerish qualities he possesses which meant that element wasn’t missed too much without the Dutchman in the side to face the Arsenal.

Jol said: "People have said I can’t play them on the left but with Jermaine Jenas, Michael Carrick and Edgar, I can also play with Aaron Lennon on (either) flank and still have three attacking players.

Tainio is clearly the spare man in Jol’s eyes with Reid and Pedro Mendes waiting in the wings should any further suspensions or injuries occur.

The club also announced this week that Wayne Routledge is running again as he continues his rehabilitation from a broken foot.

Jol added: "Wayne is doing well. He’s coming back in three or four weeks and he will give Aaron Lennon and Teemu Tainio good competition for places.
