Sergio Reguilon likely out of action for three weeks with injury setback

Tottenham could be without Sergio Reguilon for the next three weeks after the full back suffered a muscular injury, ahead of a busy month of fixtures.

Reguilon joined Spurs from Real Madrid in September 2020 and has proved to be an instant hit in north London, making 20 appearances in all competitions and chipping in with five assists.

The left back has helped Jose Mourinho's side mount a top four challenge this season, and they have the opportunity to move back into the Champions League places on Thursday when they host Liverpool.

However, according to the Evening Standard, Spurs will be without Reguilon for Thursday evening's clash, with the Spaniard sidelined with a muscular injury.

Having been an unused sub for Spurs' FA Cup victory over Wycombe last time out, Reguilon had a scan on Wednesday to determine the severity of his injury. The verdict is that he is expected to be absent for the next three weeks, missing not only the clash against top four rivals Liverpool, but also Spurs' trip to Brighton, the visit of Chelsea, the FA Cup fifth round tie with Everton and February's Premier League fixture against Manchester City.

Spurs could be short of left back options for their meeting with Liverpool, after Ben Davies was forced off in second half stoppage time against Wycombe with a knock. However, it is hoped that the Welshman will be passed fit to face Jurgen Klopp's side.

Should Davies be unavailable, Mourinho could call upon centre back Japhet Tanganga, who featured at left back for Spurs last season.

When asked about the fitness of Davies and fellow fullback Matt Doherty ahead of the Liverpool clash, Mourinho hinted that there were further injury concerns within the squad.

"Yeah, and we have more problems than that what I'm not going to share," the Tottenham boss said. "You have to wait for tomorrow but we have a little bit of more problems than that."
