Shelter launch 2022 No Home Kit campaign in fight against homelessness

Shelter have continued their battle against the ongoing housing emergency by launching their 2022 No Home Kit campaign.

Using the hashtag #NoHomeKit, Shelter are encouraging as many people as possible to ditch their club's home shirts in favour of sporting the away or third kits over the festive period, raising awareness over the ever-growing battle against homelessness.

Across each 90-minute game, an estimated 25 households across England become homeless, and there is a significant risk of that number increasing due to the cost of living crisis across the United Kingdom.

261 clubs across England and Wales supported the movement last year and that figure is expected to be eclipsed this time around, with clubs from the Women’s Super League, the Scottish Professional Football League and the Scottish Women’s Premier League all joining up.

Tottenham and Brighton have also pledged to support the cause off the pitch - Premier League rules prevent clubs from wearing anything other than their home kit at home.

Also helping out is musician Tom Grennan, who is leading a list of celebrities who have thrown their support to the cause.

“I’m passionate about this cause – it’s one of the most worrying things happening in our country, particularly with the cost of living crisis putting the squeeze on families up and down the UK," Grennan said.

"Football’s the perfect way to highlight the problem and I can’t wait to dig out some of my favourite vintage away shirts to show my support. I want to get everyone doing the same – get your kits on and donate to Shelter!”

Osama Bhutta, Director of Campaigns at Shelter, added: “Last year it was fantastic to see fans and teams across the country come together to fight the housing emergency. Our frontline services are braced for an incredibly tough winter as the cost of living crisis bites, so it’s brilliant that so many teams, fans and celebrities are stepping up and supporting #NoHomeKit this Christmas.”

Whether attending games or watching from home, fans can show their support for the movement online and can donate to the cause by texting HOME to 70800 to donate £5, or visiting their website.
