His salary wasn't the deciding factor in a deal which could be confirmed as early as today, though it might take a few days:

Mark Irwin, The Sun: ‘Carrick who has been stalling on Spurs' offer of a new £45,000-a-week contract has yet to agree personal terms with Manchester United but he will double his wages by signing a £50,000-a-week contract to move to Old Trafford next week.'

David McDonnell, Daily Mirror: ‘Carrick could be unveiled as a Manchester United player as early as today, although with personal terms and a medical still to be sorted, next week seems more likely. Carrick will see his wages more than double from £20,000-a-week to £45,000-a-week.'

Oliver Kay, The Times: ‘It is expected that Carrick will complete his move to Old Trafford early next week. The England midfield player is expected to make his first appearance in United colours against FC Porto in the LG Amsterdam Tournament a week today.'

Dominic Fifield, The Guardian: ‘Subject to a medical and personal terms, Carrick's transfer away from White Hart Lane is set to be confirmed by the middle of next week.'

Sam Wallace, The Independent: ‘The likelihood is Carrick will be announced as a United player today. While it is not clear what conditions he will have to fulfil at United for Tottenham to receive payments up to £18m - they are likely to be dependent on United's success in the Premiership and Champions' League. United travel to Amsterdam next week to play Porto and Ajax. They will expect to have Carrick in the squad.'
