The Tottenham Lineup That Should Start Against Manchester United on Friday

Tottenham return to Premier League action this Friday against Manchester United and it's a fixture with plenty of European football permutations attached to it.

Both sides are still in the hunt for a European place with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Man Utd best placed in fifth, but José Mourinho's Spurs will still fancy their chances despite being seven points off fourth spot currently.

The return of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min will be a massive boost for the north London side, one that could single handily propel them up the table if they can get a winning formula together from the get go. With that in mind, let's take a look at what XI Mourinho should field when he hosts his old team for this crucial opening game after the restart.

Goalkeeper & Defenders

Alderweireld and Sanchez are likely to line up at the back together once more

Hugo Lloris (GK) - Lloris endured a mixed return to the line up after a long term injury this season. He is always prone to the odd error but few keepers in the league have a better shot stopping record and this Tottenham side always looks calmer and defensively sounder with him between the sticks.

Serge Aurier (RB) - Aurier has continued his erratic behaviour off the pitch during lockdown with a couple of breaches of the government guidelines; however the absence of any viable alternative means he is likely to start on the right flank for this one. He'll be in for a tough night if Marcus Rashford is deployed on the left for Man Utd.

Davinson Sánchez (CB) - Sánchez is still only 24 and that is relatively young for a centre half. You'd expect him to remain part of Mourinho's plans moving forward, however he will need to improve his consistency if Tottenham are to challenge for silverware once more.

Toby Alderweireld (CB) - The Belgian signed a new deal at the club in January, and is still seen as the leader of this Tottenham defence.

Ben Davies (LB) - The Welsh full back has missed the majority of the season with an ankle ligament injury sustained in November. But despite the presence of Vertonghen and Ryan Sessegnon, he is really the only recognised left back at the club, so will slot back in for this important match.

Midfielders

Giovani Lo Celso may well be a key man for the remaining fixtures

Giovani Lo Celso (CM) - Lo Celso, now a permanent fixture at the club after Christian Eriksen's departure in January, is really the heir apparent to the Danish playmaker. He's grown into the responsibility as the season has progressed and if fully fit he'll play a crucial role for Tottenham on Friday.

Harry Winks (CM) - The diminutive English midfielder has an admirer in Mourinho, garnering plenty of gametime under the new boss. Like Sanchez, there is still a lot of work to do but the signs are promising thus far.

Moussa Sissoko (AM) - The return of Sissoko from injury is not to be underestimated. The powerful runner will be key to pushing Tottenham onto the front foot in this game.

Forwards

Spurs have their best two players back for the restart

Steven Bergwijn (RW) - The Dutch signing from Ajax is likely to edge out Lucas Moura on the right side of attack, owing to his impressive performances before lockdown.

Son Heung-min (LW )- Arguably Spurs' best player over the last two seasons, Son has contributed the most goal involvements of any Tottenham player this season and was sorely missed when he was out through suspension and injury on two separate occasions.

Harry Kane (ST) - Perhaps the biggest bonus of the three month lay off, however, is it has allowed England skipper Kane to get fully match fit while not missing anymore fixtures. You can bet he will make up for lost time and click his scoring boots back into gear.
