Tottenham 2-1 Brighton: Player Ratings as Gareth Bale Header Helps Spurs Go Second

A header from substitute Gareth Bale helped Tottenham to a 2-1 win over Brighton - a result that leaves Spurs second in the Premier League table.

It took just over 12 minutes for Spurs to take the lead from the penalty spot. Adam Lallana was penalised for a rough challenge on Kane and, following a VAR review, the England captain made no mistake from 12 yards.

After the break, Brighton's Tariq Lamptey scored a controversial equaliser. It looked as if Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was fouled in the build up, but the goal stood following a VAR check.

The equaliser acted as a wake up call for Spurs and they were rewarded for their improvement when Bale nodded home Sergio Reguilon's cross to make it 2-1.

Here are your Tottenham and Brighton player ratings from north London...

TOTTENHAM

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Hugo Lloris (GK) - 6/10 - Did not have to make a save. Distribution was pretty good though.

Matt Doherty (RB) - 7/10 - Not his most devastating display going forward but he kept Lallana and March very quiet.

Toby Alderweireld (CB) - 7/10 - Caused a surprising amount of trouble by the probing runs of Leandro Trossard. Sprayed a couple of lovely long ranged passes.

Eric Dier (CB) - 7/10 - Looking increasingly comfortable at centre back. He made a team high six clearances.

Sergio Reguilón (LB) - 7/10 - Committed himself cheaply for Brighton's equaliser. Made up for that with a fine assist for Bale's goal.

2. Midfielders

Hojbjerg impressed once again | Julian Finney/Getty Images

Moussa Sissoko (CM) - 6/10 - Got through a lot of running but not a lot to write home about in possession.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (CM) - 7/10 - Controlled things for Spurs from deep. Unlucky to be dispossessed for Brighton's equaliser as it was probably a foul.

Tanguy Ndombele (CM) - 5/10 - Received a cheap yellow card early on for a very obvious pullback on Lamptey. Struggled to impose himself, giving the ball away of five occasions while offering very little output.

3. Forwards

Kane scored from the spot | Mike Hewitt/Getty Images

Erik Lamela (RW) - 6/10 - Struck the post in the second half. Was unlucky to be substituted before Son.

Harry Kane (ST) - 8/10 - There is no better penalty taker on the planet. Provided a focal point for the Spurs attack but should have grabbed a second goal after the break.

Son Heung-min (LW) - 6/10 - Started brilliantly but faded badly after around 15 minutes or so.

4. Substitutes

Giovani Lo Celso - 6/10

Gareth Bale - 8/10 - Finally, the moment Spurs fans have been dreaming of. A match winning cameo from the bench.

Ben Davies - N/A

5. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Sanchez was making his Premier League debut | Pool/Getty Images

Robert Sanchez (GK) - 7/10 - The Spaniard was making his Premier League debut and made one outstanding save in the second half. Early signs looks promising.

Adam Webster (CB) - 7/10 - Won everything in the air, coming out on top in five aerial duels overall.

Joel Veltman (CB) - 7/10 - Took a principled stance against Son's shocking dive in the second half. Also racked up 90% pass accuracy.

Dan Burn (CB) - 7/10 - Dealt with Son particularly well. Judging by his short cameo up front, he should not give up the day job.

6. Wing Backs and Midfielders

Lamptey scored his first ever senior goal | Mike Hewitt/Getty Images

Tariq Lamptey (RWB) - 8/10 - Showed excellent composure to slot home Brighton's equaliser. Is there anything this man cannot do?

Ben White (CM) - 7/10 - Neat if unsensational in possession and ferocious in his pressing, registering four tackles. A bit headless at times.

Yves Bissouma (CM) - 6/10 - Horrific clearance started the chain of events that led to the penalty. Great energy.

Solly March (LWB) - 6/10 - His biggest contribution was winning the ball back off Hojbjerg for the Seagulls' equaliser. Great hustle...but it was probably a foul.

7. Forwards

Lallana gave away a poor penalty | MIKE HEWITT/Getty Images

Pascal Groß (RW) - 7/10 - Led the Brighton press, racking up no less than three tackles. In possession has was also decent, laying on Lamptey for his side's equaliser.

Leandro Trossard (ST) - 6/10 - Led the line for the Seagulls. Linked things up nicely at times but was extremely isolated.

Adam Lallana (LW) - 5/10 - Complete brainfart led to him giving away a penalty - although it was a controversial one.

8. Substitutes

Bernardo - 6/10

Alexis Mac Allister - 6/10

Danny Welbeck - 6/10
