The 23-year-old, who plays for Lille in France,  was a Spurs target in the summer after the White Hart Lane boss Harry Redknapp sent scouts to watch him last season.

Gervinho impressed Redknapp during the World Cup for France despite the country's poor showing in South Africa. He has already scored six goals this season after hitting 18 in the last campaign.

Gervinho is contracted to Lille until the summer of 2012 but it not known how much Spurs would be willing to pay for the wing man if they made a likely January move for him.

After the 3-2 win against Arsenal at the Emirates last Saturday, Redknapp said: 'I am looking to bring people in. We need to tweak it to finish it off. I think Tottenham have a championship in the next few years.

'Just because they haven't for a while doesn't mean that Chelsea, Man United, Arsenal or Liverpool will carry on winning it.'
