Tottenham Confident of Sergio Reguilon Deal & Man Utd's Stance on Rumoured Move

Tottenham are confident of agreeing a deal for Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon, despite rival interest from 13-time Premier League winners Manchester United.

The Lilywhites emerged as a contender for the Spaniard's signature over the past couple of days, and now look set to fend off United's interest.

The Athletic's David Ornstein first reported that although a deal is yet to be struck between Spurs and Real Madrid, the potential of reaching an agreement for a permanent deal is 'highly possible'.

A source has now confirmed to 90min that Spurs are confident that they will be conclude a move for Reguilon, while Manchester United - who are rumoured to have engaged in lengthy talks with Real - insist that their interest only ever mounted to an enquiry.

United completely disregarded the possibility of a buy-back clause being included in any potential deal, while Spurs are willing to agree to such a clause.

Left-back didn't seem an obvious priority for Tottenham head coach José Mourinho this summer due to his admiration of Ben Davies and the potential of Ryan Sessegnon and Dennis Cirkin, but there's no doubting Reguilon would be an obvious upgrade on current options.

The 23-year-old starred out on loan at Europa League victors Sevilla last term, as he notched eight goal contributions in 38 appearances in all competitions.

Reguilon's ability to both overlap and underlap in the final third is mightily impressive - with the timing and decision-making of such runs superb - while his aggressive and energetic nature down the left flank has surely caught the eye of Mourinho - who, according to Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur, called the Spaniard over a potential move a few weeks ago.

The Real Madrid man's potential arrival may signal a change in approach from Mourinho, who has often restricted the advancement of his left-back to facilitate the more aggressive positioning of his right-back, due to Reguilon's capacity to produce in the final third.
