Tottenham Considering Move for Troy Deeney as Harry Kane Backup

Tottenham are considering signing Watford captain Troy Deeney on loan from the relegated side, as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his attacking options for next season.

As they prepare for life in the Championship next season, the Hornets are reportedly looking to offload Deeney who, on around £65,000-a-week, is one of the club's highest earners.

Watford will be playing Championship football next season.

With teenager Troy Parrott following in Harry Kane's footsteps and joining Millwall on loan, Tottenham are now lacking backup options in attack – and the Mail report that Deeney has been identified as a suitable candidate to come in and provide cover for Kane.

A loan deal could work in Mourinho's favour, as Deeney has just one year remaining on his contract. Should the 32-year-old impress, he will be available on a free next summer.

Mourinho is in need of attacking options.

Deeney hit ten goals in 27 appearances for the Hornets this season (half of them coming from the penalty spot), taking his Premier League tally to 47. He has spent ten long years with Watford, but may have played his last game for the club, and gave a heartfelt speech after the loss to Arsenal which saw them relegated.

"We haven't quite been good enough at both ends of the pitch and it showed again today. It's frustrating, it's disappointing, it's is heart breaking for the people who work behind the scenes," Deeney told Sky Sports.

"There are a lot of people at clubs who normally get affected by relegation so we feel sorry for them. I'll take the stick with regards what comes social media wise. The harsh reality of it is that some people will lose their jobs because we haven't been good enough. As players we have to stand forward, take that and as a club and a community we go again."

Tottenham have also considered making a move for Bournemouth's Callum Wilson, though the Cherries are fending off potential suitors with a sizeable price tag.
