Tottenham Planning Friendly With Norwich Ahead of Premier League Return

Tottenham and Norwich will contest a friendly on Friday as both groups of players look to get up to speed ahead of the Premier League season resuming.

The Canaries will kick off the league's 30th round of fixtures when they take on Southampton on Friday 19 June. They will be closely followed by Tottenham, whose clash with Manchester United is pencilled in as the later kick-off that night.

With each side having only used intra-squad friendlies so far to keep the fitness up, The Telegraph report the two sides will meet for a warm-up a week ahead of their respective restarts at a venue yet to be determined.

The Premier League gave permission to clubs to contest such friendlies last week, under a number of conditions to help contain the COVID-19 virus which continues to threaten lives all over the UK.

Aside from matches being played behind closed doors, the clubs contesting the matches are required to be within 90 minutes' travel of one another, while they must also have already faced one another twice in the league this season.

Spurs and Norwich fit both of those requirements, so there is no reason to doubt that the reported friendly will go ahead.

The Telegraph go on to quote Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris, who spoke to Spurs TV, saying he feels 'safe' with plans to resume the season.

“There is a protocol going on and we can feel step by step," Lloris said. "We’ve introduced the new sessions, we started at home by video sessions, then individual sessions at the training ground, then groups.

“We can feel safe in terms of our environment. The medical staff are doing everything to make our minds calm and confident and then the coaching staff, they’ve never stopped working for us.”
