Tottenham Hotspur are expected to return to Real Sociedad with an improved bid for striker Willian José, as they look to find a new striker before Friday's deadline.
Harry Kane's potentially season-ending injury has left Spurs desperate to find a new forward, but they are yet to find a suitable option. AC Milan's Krzysztof Piątek, briefly linked as a 'top target', is now set to join Hertha Berlin, leaving Spurs with few backup options.
José is another man who's been on the radar, but talks over the 28-year-old recently broke down. However, given the situation, The Independent claim that Spurs are ready to return with a higher offer. An introductory bid of £10m was swiftly rejected by La Real, who are eager to earn something closer to the £21m mark.
It is suggested that the La Liga side could even lower the demands as José has made no secret of his desire to join Spurs. He has not played for the club since the links emerged, which could work in Spurs' favour.
With just days remaining in the transfer window, Spurs are considering all their options. A source has confirmed to 90min that they are confident of striking a deal for Chelsea's Olivier Giroud, with a fee between £6m and £8m thought to be enough to get the job done.
However, another man who also appears to be on Spurs' radar is Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale, who has been linked with a return to Spurs pretty much since the day he left back in 2013.
Those rumours have intensified in recent years amid reports of a breakdown in relationship with manager Zinedine Zidane, and the Daily Mail claim that Spurs have held talks with Real about bringing the Welshman back.
José Mourinho has long admired Bale and is eager to work with him, but the finances in the deal are obviously a huge problem. Bale earns close to £600,000 per week and Spurs simply cannot come anywhere close to matching that.
As a result, a move for Bale is seen as incredibly unlikely, so the club will continue to pursue other options.
