Tottenham have been a little disingenuous in their search for a proper backup striker to Harry Kane in recent years.
In the beginning, there was Clinton N'Jie. He made 14 appearances for the club and never scored.
Then there was Vincent Janssen. The Dutchman was rarely in peak physical condition and, while his build-up play impressed in tiny spells, he couldn't take advantage of Kane's time out with injury early during the 2016/17 season and failed to
Finally, there was Fernando Llorente. The former Juventus star has something of a cult hero status at Spurs thanks to his screamer against Manchester City in the Champions League last season - I say screamer, you might call it an arse goal - but watching him try to press from the front during the latter stages of the campaign was pretty disheartening.
So seeing as Kane can't get through a season without picking up some kind of
Raul Jimenez
There would be no better scenario here than Spurs signing Raul Jimenez. The Mexico international has been red-hot for a Wolves side currently higher than Spurs in the Premier League table, with his link-up play and positional awareness helping him to 22 goals in all competitions so far this term.
That being said, he wouldn't come cheap. The former Atletico Madrid striker joined Wolves permanently for €38m and there's no way the Wanderers would let him go for less than that fee.
Vedat Muriqi
Just at a glance of the man, you know he is not one to be trifled with.
Standing at an imposing 6'4, Muriqi shot to notoriety in England when he scored once and assisted twice against the Three Lions in a European Championship qualifying match at St Mary's back in September.
The 25-year-old had scored 13 goals and assisted four more in 25 Super Lig appearances before football's enforced shutdown, though players have had issues adapting when moving from Turkey's top flight to the Premier League in the past.
Willian Jose
Back in January when Tottenham were linked with the former Brazil Under-20 international, one response from a member of the 90min editorial team regarding the interest was 'lmao'.
That's not a good sign. Or maybe it is. Regardless, the 'lmao' wasn't a glowing endorsement of the links, or indeed Willian Jose as a striker.
Like Jimenez, Willian is 28 and arguably in his prime, but would not come with a guarantee of goals, goals and more goals. His best league season to date is a haul of 15 strikes in 2017/18 which, while not terrible, probably wouldn't justify the meaty outlay Spurs would need to fork out to obtain his signature.
Arkadiusz Milik
Given that the future of Dries Mertens is far from certain, Napoli would be silly to let Milik go.
That being said,
The Poland international was more prolific during his sole season at Ajax than he has been at Stadio San Paolo, but still managed 17 Serie A goals during his first campaign in Naples and has nine for the current unfinished season.
So yeah, he knows where the goal is.
