Tottenham Transfers: 5 Goalkeepers Spurs Could Realistically Target This Summer

Hugo Lloris has undoubtedly been a fine servant for Tottenham since signing for the club back in 2012.

It's funny to think that the Frenchman initially had trouble disposing of Brad Friedel to become Spurs' number one during the 2012/13 season, but since the American's exit, Lloris has held down the goalkeeper spot.

He is, however, reaching the twilight of his career and avoidable errors still creep into his performances from time to time.

Hugo Lloris

With the World Cup winner turning 34 later this year, it's time Jose Mourinho started to think about who he'd like to take over the mantle.

Andre Onana

Young? Check. Plays for Ajax? Check. That's just about all Tottenham need to consider signings whenever the transfer window opens.

The Cameroon international only has two seasons remaining on his current deal with the Dutch giants and is one of the most coveted goalkeepers throughout Europe.

While it would be a wise investment on Tottenham's part, they're not alone in eyeing up the 24-year-old, who recently suggested he'd be open to returning to Barcelona. Chelsea are also monitoring his progress.

Gianluigi Donnarumma

Gianluigi Donnarumma

In a few words, probably not going to happen.

Granted, moving from Milan to Tottenham is definitely a step up, but it seems unlikely that the Italy international would move to a mid-tier club instead of a global powerhouse. Paris Saint-Germain links have been strong, and it would not be a surprise to see Donnarumma sign for the Ligue 1 champions in the near future.

That being said, a few strong seasons in north London could help build his reputation even further, but even so, his hypothetical stay with the Lilywhites probably wouldn't last too long.

Nick Pope

Nick Pope

This would hardly be a bums off seats kind of signing, but Tottenham would know exactly what they were getting with Pope.

The England international managed has managed to fight off competition from Tom Heaton and Joe Hart in recent years to establish himself as Burnley's first choice goalkeeper.

He'd probably be England's number one too if Gareth Southgate didn't love Jordan Pickford's little arms so much. A dependable shot stopper, a deal for Pope wouldn't signal masses of ambition on Tottenham's part, but they would have a goalie who doesn't make too many mistakes.

Aaron Ramsdale

Aaron Ramsdale

During the 2018/19 season, Ramsdale was playing for League One AFC Wimbledon, so it's a testament to Eddie Howe's faith in young players that he was immediately promoted to being Bournemouth's number one for the current campaign.

While his shot-stopping abilities have been praised in some quarters, Bournemouth still concede a lot of goals - 47 in 29 Premier League games this campaign to be exact, which in fairness is only seven more than Tottenham's less than impressive haul.

Signing Ramsdale would be a nod to the future, but it would also be quite the ask for the 21-year-old to be brought in as Lloris' immediate successor. A season or two as an understudy could be one avenue to explore.

Mike Maignan

Mike Maignan

A more recent transfer link, Maignan has impressed with Ligue 1 side Lille - who are currently fourth in France's top flight - this season.

He also has Champions League experience, featuring in all six of Les Dogues' European games as they exited the competition in the group stage earlier this term.

Spurs' track record of recruitment from Ligue 1 is a little iffy Lloris aside, with players like Clinton N'Jie and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou failing to set the world alight - the jury is still out on Tanguy Ndombele. Maignan was picked for the league's 2018/19 team of the year and has also been included in Didier Deschamps' France squad, though he is yet to make his senior international debut.
