For most of us, 2020 has been a bit rubbish. *Sounds the understatement klaxon*.
However, some people have actually had a very good 2020, in particular those celebrated at the annual Best FIFA Football Awards on Thursday evening.
Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski took the top gong in the men's game as he was named Best FIFA Men's Player for 2020, and in fairness it's hard to argue that anyone else even came close to being worthy of the award, a belief backed up by a lot of people on social media.
Heyy fifa awards @FIFAcom nominations or even a top three wasn't necessary this season for the award for men's best player it was crystal clear with all the achievements of Robert Lewandowski this season.#FIFAFootballAwards @lewy_official

Lewandowski deserved to be crowned and recognised as the best player of this season just as much as Modric did in 2018 and VVD in 2019 - more than anyone else. A class above.

Lewandowski definitely deserved it, Messi and Penaldo are done.

Despite missing out on the top individual prize, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were named in the World Men's XI. Naturally, the 11 players picked caused quite a stir, with Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos partnering Virgil van Dijk at centre back, a decision which was greeted with a mixed reception.
Sergio Ramos being named in the FIFA World XI for the 11th time, which is only less than Cristiano Ronaldo & Lionel Messi (both 14 times) isn’t spoken about enough. Incredible longevity.

It's very unfair and unjust that not even a single PSG personel was recognized...what the hell was Biesla doing in that nomination ahead of Tuchel.
— UZOR Richard (@richard_eQua) December 17, 2020
What was Ronaldo doing in the World XI ahead of Mbappe or Neymar.
What was Ramos doing in the World XI ahead of Thiago Silva??
I'm sure the officials who are responsible for picking FIFA men's XI were drunk when picking the players.

How is Allison in the starting XI over Manuel neur?
Why is Sergio Ramos in the starting XI?
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was rewarded for the Reds' fine season in which they finally overcame their Premier League hoodoo by romping to title glory with an incredible 99 points.
The Liverpool boss took home the Best FIFA Men's Coach award for the second consecutive year, another decision which seemed to split opinion.
Jurgen Klopp winning FIFA Men's best coach ahead of Hansi Flick should tell you guys something now!
— Ayo (@Teemlo77) December 17, 2020
Congratulations Jurgen Klopp.. But Hansi Flick is a more deserving candidate... #TheBest

Hansi Flick did brilliantly with Bayern but deserved win for Jurgen Klopp. To dominate the Premier League like that a year after such a heartbreak was some coaching performance #FIFAFootballAwards pic.twitter.com/BANpGXDB3X

Special man this for Liverpool ! Congratulations Jurgen Klopp. It's well deserved. I'm pretty sure Mourinho will be saying the better coach was not nominated (him) ??? #lfc #ynwa

Tottenham's Son Heung-min was awarded the FIFA Puskas award for his incredible solo goal against Burnley in December 2019.
The Spurs forwards has been playing some of the best football of his career in recent months as he and Harry Kane continue to spearhead Jose Mourinho's side's title charge, though it's fare to Twitter wasn't too pleased with him being given the Puskas award.

Son has won the Puskas Award for his goal against Burnley, for my money it wasn’t even the best goal scored that month...

Why do I have a feeling that Spurs might just register that Son Puskas award as a trophy win? #fifathebest
— The Chosen One (@Nicholas_k01) December 17, 2020
Son's goal was great but I don't think it should have won the Puskas...
— advanced nigganometry?? (@1andonly_toni) December 17, 2020
Unpopular opinion: Son’s Puskas goal aren't that special, just a huge sprint, it was a great goal, but others were much better.

Elsewhere, Lucy Bronze was recognised for her superb season with Lyon as she clinched her third consecutive Champions League trophy in August.
The Manchester City full-back was clearly overjoyed having pipped Pernille Harder and Wendie Renard to the award, and finally social media came together as one to celebrate the England star and congratulate her achievement. Yeah, you knew that was lie as soon as you read it, didn't you?
Huge congratulations to @LucyBronze on winning Best FIFA Player of the year - the first English footballer to be crowned best in the world. She’s been absolutely outstanding and a joy to watch for years. So well deserved!
— Steve Eustice (@SteveEustice) December 17, 2020
Lucy Bronze? Smh. Pernille Harder should be winning that
— Toheeb (@Toheeeeb) December 17, 2020
