Wenger's babes face toughest test

Manchester United did the double over Arsenal in the league last season, although the Gunners took some revenge in the FA Cup final, but Wenger is clearly a coach focussed on the here and now.

Robert Pires fell victim when the Frenchman found himself demoted to the bench, after Wenger axed the player for their Champions League quarter-final second leg against Juventus last week.

Wenger said: "I don't look at our history against United because if I did, we wouldn't have reached the semi-finals of the Champions League."

Pires said: "I was very, very disappointed because I would have liked to have had an explanation but I did not get one. It was not for me to go into the office and ask why I was not playing. I've always accepted decisions whether for club or country, but this I found harder to accept because I was in a good run and physically, felt at ease."
