Tottenham were torn apart by a rampant Newcastle in the first half as goals from Lee Bowyer, Shola Ameobi and Alan Shearer, from the penalty spot, saw them cruise home.
Although Keane cancelled out Bowyer's instant tonic, and also hit the woodwork twice, including one just before the break that hammered the bar, the absence of Ledley King at the back proved the visitors' undoing.
Spurs rallied after the break but Michael Dawson's red card for a second bookable offence ended their interest.
